The MSFS World Hub is in the final stages of development, coming hopefully in September.
Whilst third-party developers have been very quick at creating quality scenery products for Microsoft Flight Simulator, there are literally thousands of airports that still need some additional work to make them more accurate to their real-world counterparts. This is where the MSFS World Hub comes in.
Formally known as the Scenery Gateway system, the concept of the MSFS World Hub is to allow anyone in the community to easily edit and change default airports and then release that to the world via the platform. For example, if a runway number has changed or there’s overlapping vegetation, a community member can easily change the details or edit the airport to be more accurate.
Community members will be only able to use the default resources found in the sim, thus protecting the work third-party developers do, but also making sure that both PC and Xbox users can easily update and change their airports.
The system will allow you to search from the database of airports and then ‘check out’ an airport for editing. Once edited, it will be submitted for approval and then once approved, released for the world to enjoy via an official update.
Originally, the MSFS World Hub was due to release with World Update 14, but this was missed due to the team wanting currently working on “accessibility and privacy requirement reviews.” That said, the team is hopeful that it will be out in September as part of Sim Update 13.
